Research Completed with Hypothesis and Variables Submission – Due September 24(27)
As soon as your project is approved, you should be working to gather relevant, verified/reputable information from several sources. This information will allow you to fine tune your problem, purpose and be the basis for your hypothesis which will identify your variables and controls. Please consider the ease of getting materials, the space and time you would need to conduct the experiment and especially the SAFETY of your proposal. You experiment must still get formal approval for you to do what you have planned!
If you are working on an invention/engineering project, you can double enter your project and you must do some specific research on http://uspto.gov to legitimize your claims. Click here for the patent search questions. Instead of a hypothesis you will write an engineering goal that will identify the design features you intend to build. Research Expectations: CLICK HERE for p. 5 notes in your Logbook. Scroll Down and Look for “Research Expectations.”
Pages 7-21 Research Notes - Notetaking options are Cornell Notes/Concept Map/Notecards – CLICK HERE for guidance. Select one method to use for all your research notes. A well done set of notes will make writing a paper with legitimate in-text citation much easier to do.
Page 6- Research Summary (September 24 (27)) – You will reflect on the research that you have done and use it to help you formulate your hypothesis/engineering goal and variables. CLICK HERE for the Prompts.
FINAL QUARTER 1 SUBMISSION for Approval to do the Experiment
Here is what you need for your big due date October 20/21st.
Paperwork (fr0m ISEF Website – Forms 1, 1A, 1B and any additional forms). The link is on the “purple” page.
Research Plan (look on the 2nd page of form 1A for details) There are supporting documents on the Homework Page under Science/Inventor’s Fair to help you generate these documents.
Research Paper on the background information found on your topic. There are lots of documents to use on the “purple” page. This paper should be written strictly on the information you found. It is 3rd person (No I’s, me’s we’s us’s, oryou’s). Nothing project specific should be in this part. That is your research plan. This is a “just the facts” write up.
